Melfort Village Retains Green Tourism Gold Award

Melfort Village  has received a gold award from the prestigious Green Tourism Business Scheme.

 Members of the scheme since 1999, this is the ninth consecutive year that Melfort Village has achieved Gold.  The management and team at Melfort Village were congratulated as being a great example of a green holiday village and for their commitment to delivering the green message to staff and guests.

 The Club Manager, Mrs Christine Roberts, said, “Melfort Village has been committed to Green Tourism for 13 years and every year we try to develop our efforts by working closely with the Green Tourism Scheme.  One of our proudest achievements is to have achieved this rating without expending a great deal of money.  We believe that green tourism can be affordable and very beneficial to businesses and guests alike”  

 Melfort Village has recently taken part in Green Tourism week (21-27 May) organised by the staff “Green Team”.  Activities included taking part in the local beach clean, a staff swap shop and a day of free bike hire to encourage guests to stay local.

Melfort Village Gym gets a Facelift

Melfort Village is delighted with our new Precor Gym Equipment installed just this week!  We have new state of the art Treadmill, Cross Trainer, Exercise Bike and Rowing Machine.   Guests can also use our Swimming Pool and Sauna.

Scottish Snowdrop Festival 2011

The snowdrops are blooming at Melfort Village, like drifts of snow in the corners of every cottage garden – Beautiful!!  Book a cottage, sit in front of your roaring fire and admire the snowdrops nodding daintily outsdie your window!

The Scottish Snowdrop Festival runs from 1st February to 15th March 2011.  Nearby NTS property, Arduaine Gardens, is participating in this event.  Worth a visit to see springtime just starting to emerge from the cold winter earth and afterwards enjoy the warmth and tea at the Loch Melfort Hotel.

Arduaine Spring Festival

Horticultural enthusiasts will be treated to an expert, behind-the-scenes view of the stunning garden and its world-leading plant collections, as well as the chance to learn more about Argyll’s natural and cultural history.

Organised in conjunction with the Loch Melfort Hotel, the ‘Springtime in Argyll’ Arduaine Spring Festival runs between 6-8 May 2011. Gardens expert and ex-Potting Shed presenter Freida Morrison will join David Mitchell of the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, expert archaeologist Derek Alexander and wildlife expert Dr Richard Luxmore, to share their insights into Argyll’s amazing heritage.

Argyll Ladies in for a Treat at Melfort Village Pampering Day!

To celebrate the continuing success of its new beauty and well being room opened earlier this year, Melfort Village is to hold a Ladies Day on Monday 29th November where ladies can relax and enjoy complimentary health and beauty indulgences!

The event at Melfort Village, a hamlet of luxury self catering holiday cottages in Kilmelford, will also raise money for the Cherish Fund Oban, a local fund whose aim is to buy a vehicle which can be customised to transport terminally ill patients in comfort and dignity to wherever they need to go.  This is run by John and Jean Bowman who also run the Shower of Herring Restaurant at Melfort Village.

The full day event will include complimentary health and mini beauty treatments, advice and demonstrations from Melfort Village’s beauty room experts.  Beauticians Nicola Siddall and Trish Steele will be on hand to give advice and offer complimentary beauty treatments including mini manicures.  Pre-booking for treatments is essential as spaces are limited.

Ladies can also enjoy full use of the swimming pool, gym and sauna at Melfort Village and browse the gift shop for beautiful jewellery and handbags.  There will also be the chance to enter the  raffle to win a fantastic Heyland & Whittle Christmas Gift Box, containing cinnamon & gingerbread candle, soap & bath melts and reed diffuser and other goodies too.  The weekly coffee morning at the Shower of Herring Restaurant, where you can also purchase delicious home baked cakes, will still take place and costs £2 in aid of the Cherish Fund.  A special ladies lunch is on offer at the restaurant with soup and sandwich for just £5.  Or, enjoy a rustic supper in the evening for just £12 for two courses.

The event is free but donations for the Cherish Fund and purchases of raffle tickets are encouraged.

The staff and Committee of Melfort Village are delighted and proud to announce that we have been awarded the Green Tourism Business Scheme Gold Award.  A great deal of effort has been dedicated to making Melfort Village an environmentally friendly and sustainable holiday destination.  Thanks too, go to our owners and guests who all enthusiastically recycle and enjoy the local environment, whilst they are on holiday.

Businesses opting to join Green Tourism are assessed by a qualified grading advisor against a rigorous set of criteria, covering a range of areas, like energy and water efficiency, waste management, biodiversity and more.
