How to Get Here
Take your time and enjoy the scenery en route.
From the East via Tyndrum
Leave the M9 at Stirling and join the A84. At the junction of the A873 to Thornhill is a fantastic farm shop and café called the Smiddy.
Re-join the A84 and continue towards Callendar. As you pass through Doune we recommend a stop at the Scottish Antiques Centre. Pass through Callander on towards Crianlarich where you join the A82.
Tyndrum to Oban
When you get to Tyndrum, do stop at the Green Welly Stop. Afterwards you can then either detour North on the A82 all the way through the majestic Glencoe and then south to Oban, or you can take the more direct A85 to Oban.
Joining the A85 if you find you need to stretch your legs, or walk the dog then stop at either the Glen Lochy or Strone Hill car parks. Afterward, continue on the A85 until you reach Oban, and then join the A816 south to Kilmelford.
If you are feeling adventurous you can join the B845 as you enter Taynuilt and travel along the shores of Loch Awe to Dalavich and then travel over the hill past Loch Avich to Kilmelford enjoying spectacular views along the way. Do be warned though this is a single track road all the way and not for the feint hearted!
From the South
If you are travelling from South of Glasgow and need to stretch your legs, walk the dog or stop for the loo then either Firkin Point or Tarbet might suit. Both are on your right as you travel north on the A82.
At Tarbet you have the option of continuing on the A82 to Tyndrum then onwards to Oban or as an alternative you can continue on the A83 north over the Rest and be Thankful (the matrix boards at Tarbet will let you know of there are any problems with the road before you get to it). Continuing towards Inveraray, if the sun is shining have a wee walk in Inverary and enjoy an ice cream from the Pier Shop. When you reach Lochgilphead continue on the A816 to Kilmelford.
For something completely different instead of taking the Erskine Bridge across the Clyde and joining the A82, continue on the M8 to Greenock and then to Gourock and catch the Western Ferry to Dunoon, the ferries run every 15 minutes and tickets can be pre-booked online at a discounted price. You can then travel north to join the A83 avoiding the Rest and be Thankful.
